A Family Recipe for a Taste of Home

Nannu's Pastizzi is a family-run Maltese bakery in Meadowvale, sharing the flaky pastries that Maltese families have loved for generations.

The Story Behind the Name

Owner story to come

In Maltese, nannu means grandpa. Our name honours Larry, the father of owner Chris Zammit. Larry ran a pastizzi shop in Toronto's Junction for 30 years, and Chris grew up on his pastizzi. In September 2013, Chris opened Nannu's Pastizzi in Meadowvale, bringing that family tradition to Mississauga.

We still make our pastizzi the patient way: the dough is prepared over three days, then the pastries are filled, shaped and baked on day four.

To come: a few words from the family

What Are Pastizzi?

Pastizzi (one is a pastizz) are Malta's best-loved snack: savoury pastries made from thin, flaky, many-layered dough, folded around a warm filling. The two classic fillings are creamy ricotta and a savoury pea filling. Across Malta they're sold in small pastry shops called pastizzeriji, and they're traditionally enjoyed hot, often with a cup of tea.

A Little Piece of Malta in Mississauga

Beyond pastizzi, you'll find qassatat, timpana, Maltese sweets, Kinnie and a small shelf of Maltese groceries and snacks, all among the Maltese keepsakes around the café. Whether you grew up on pastizzi or you're trying your first one, pull up a chair, or take a box home for the family.
